“The situation with rehabilitation of the victims of political repressions, which has formed in Ukraine, is undetermined and unjust to the victims of the repressions”, reads the joint press release of the Council of Ukrainian human rights protecting organizations and the Kharkov group for human rights protection. The press release was presented in the framework of public discussion of the law drafts on rehabilitation of the victims of repressions.

The participants of the public hearings turned to the Supreme Rada of Ukraine with the appeal to consider, as soon as possible, the drafts of the Law “On rehabilitation of the victims of political repressions in Ukraine”.

Co-chairpersons of the Group E. Zakharov and I. Rapp state the position of the KhG and present the analysis of the existing drafts and their propositions on this question.

The appeal to President Leonid Kuchma in the connection with the adoption of the Law of Ukraine “On introduction of changes into some legislative acts of Ukraine”. The human rights protectors believe that this law endangers the right for information, groundlessly restricts the freedom of expression and contradicts the interests of the society and the Ukrainian state as a whole.

The authors of the article analyzed the draft and drew the conclusion that the Draft contradicted the Constitution and international obligations of Ukraine, in particular, in the parts that concern the penetration to dwelling, presumption of innocence, detention of the suspected, terms of their holding in custody before the official accusation, during the pre-trial investigation and trial.

The public hearings “Human rights and fundamental freedoms in the draft of the Criminal-Procedural Code of Ukraine” were held on 12 May in Kyiv. The majority of the participants mentioned the considerable number of drawbacks of the draft, which drawbacks created the auspicious conditions for systematic, uncontrolled and arbitrary violations of rights and fundamental freedoms of common citizens.

Ombudsperson Nina Karpacheva directed to President of Ukraine Leonid Kuchma the appeal “On violation of the right for labor of the workers of budget establishments of the town of Mukachevo because of political views”.

The report states the situation in Ukraine did not improve during the part year.

Violations of the Constitutional rights of citizens and the demands of the laws concerning the material, medical and sanitary provision of convicts in preliminary prisons are systematic. This depressing conclusion was made after a check conducted by the prosecutor’s office.

The Institute “Respublika” appeals to the MPs of Ukraine: do not approve the President’s law draft “On assemblies, meetings, street marches and demonstrations”, because it violates the fundamental human rights and freedoms and contradicts Article 39 of the Ukrainian Constitution!

A deputy of the Chortkiv town council was driven out from the plenary sitting for the attempt to make ther audio record of the sitting.

The newspaper published the information about the disgraceful style of work of the Severodonetsk multi-field hospital. Now, according to court decision, the edition must refute this information and pay 2100 hryvnas to the claimant.

The Appeal court of Kyiv issued the Resolution, by which it cancelled the decision of the Darnitsa district court of Kyiv on the collection of 238500 hryvnas from the newspaper “Golos Ukrainy” and the same sum from journalist Sergiy Lavreniuk in favor of the oil company “TNK-Ukraina-Invest”.
