Judges from the Pechersky District Court in Kyiv which suspended the Verkhovna Rada’s Resolution attempting to reinstate the former makeup of the Central Election Commission, have complained of pressure being placed on them.

“Since the morning of 4 April 2007 we have been subjected to pressure from judge of the Pechersky District Court in Kyiv and member of the High Council of Justice Volodymyr Kolesnychenko who has threatened us with dismissal for issuing the court ruling”, the statement from Judges Kafidova, Hrynych and Ivanenko reads,

They have addressed this statement to the Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada, the Head of the High Council of Justice, the Prosecutor General and the Head of the SBU [Security Service].

They also assert that they have been received threats of dismissal from the State Deputy and member of the High Council of Justice Serhiy Kivalov.

The judges ask for measures to be taken to put an end to this pressure from members of the High Council of Justice, and to also give the appropriate legal assessment of this situation.
