Russia’s long-term war against Ukraine and the recent years of full-scale Russian invasion have added to the history of atrocities. Enforced disappearances have become one of the darkest pages of this history. Lists of Ukrainians to be disposed of, children illegally detained in the temporarily occupied territories, and families still searching for their loved ones. 5340 victims. The global initiative T4P (Tribunal for Putin) discussed this during the research presentation on enforced disappearances.

What happens to Ukrainian civilians in Russian captivity.

Filtration is a violent, unregulated screening of the personal data of detained people, their social contacts, views and attitudes towards the occupying state, their safety for the authorities or services of the occupying state, as well as their willingness and consent to cooperate with the authorities or services of the occupying state.

The Russian occupiers destroyed hundreds of religious buildings and kidnapped, tortured, killed, and wounded dozens of priests... This was discussed at a press conference on the Russian occupier’s war crimes against Ukrainian religious communities and clergy.

In total, our organization documented 9,252 incidents in the Kharkiv Region during the reporting period. When classified by type of event, the most recorded incidents were related to shelling or bombing—information about at least 6,048 such incidents was collected.

The study analyzed 1417 rulings of the first-instance courts under pt.2 of Art. 84 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, which were delivered between January 1, 2017 and June 30, 2022 throughout Ukraine and made openly available in the Unified State Register of Court Decisions.

During Russia’s all-out war against Ukraine the Kherson Region became a part of the country with the highest number of enforced disappearances and illegal detention among civilians. To date (24 June 2022) 412 victims of these crimes have been identified.

The KHPG has been documenting war crimes since the first day of the war.It draws on information from open sources and appeals it receives from the victims or their relatives. In the past four months, we documented 590 incidents in the Kharkiv Regionin which a total of 777 people disappeared.

Among the categories of people who disappeared the majority were ordinary citizens. They were not working for the media, and there is no information about them. It is proving impossible to determine their fate. Their occupations are unknown, and it remains unclear what category we can put them in.

The analysis of the collected information provides grounds to claim that there were deaths and injuries of civilian people, destruction and damage of civilian objects – residential buildings and civilian infrastructure facilities – due to wilful and indiscriminate shelling. The studied data also provides reasons to claim alleged incidents of enforced disappearances, captures of civilians, violations of humanitarian corridors and attacks on humanitarian aid supplies, looting, killings and others.

The analysis of the collected information gives grounds to claim that there were deaths and injuries of civilians, destruction and damage of civilian objects due to wilful shelling and indiscriminate shelling, probable incidents of enforced disappearances, captures of civilians, violations of humanitarian corridors and attacks on humanitarian aid supplies and convoys, volunteers, looting, killings.
