Five police officers from the Rozdilnya District Police Station in the Odessa region [oblast] have been arrested for allegedly torturing detainees
Five police officers from the Rozdilnya District Police Station in the Odessa region [oblast] have been arrested for allegedly torturing detainees.
The Regional Prosecutors Press Service reports that the men are alleged to have tortured detainees in order to gain information about a theft and to get suspects to confess to the crime.
Numerous signs of torture were recorded, and the Prosecutor says that the police are believed to have used electric shocks while interrogating them. One of the victims also said the policemen put a plastic bag over his head while he was being questioned.
The criminal investigation is over torture and exceeding official powers.
