Crimean Parliament makes concessions over journalists’ demands

Most, although not all. of the new accreditation rules which led Crimean journalists to declare a boycott three weeks ago have been removed

Journalists will be allowed to receive commentaries not only in the press centre, but also directly from deputies. As reported, on 8 December Crimean journalists declared a boycott of the Crimean parliament in connection with the adoption of new accreditation rules.  Accreditation was only to be given for two representatives of any media outlet, and commentaries would only be given by the press centre.

The Crimean parliament has changed these norms. Now three representatives of each television or radio station can receive accreditation. The new rule has not however been changed for the printed press. Journalists may now also approach deputies for comments. In addition, the new accreditation procedure has dropped the point which prohibited journalists from filming deputies against their wishes.
