He stated this during a meeting with Hungary’s Ukrainian community during a visit to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Hungarian Uprising against Soviet rule

Over the next month the Ukrainian  President will submit to the Verkhovna Rada a draft law on recognizing Holodomor [the artificially induced Famine of 1932-1933]  as an act of genocide.  Viktor Yushchenko announced this today, 22 October 2006, in Budapest during his meeting with the Ukrainian community in the State Body of Self-Government of Ukrainians in Hungary.

“On 25 November we will be commemorating the anniversary of those terrible events and the President will by that time have initiated the consideration of a draft law in parliament to have Holodomor acknowledged to have been an act of genocide against the Ukrainian people”,

The Head of the European Congress of Ukrainians, Yaroslava Khortyani, also the Head of the Ukrainian Culture Society in Hungary, pointed out that the Hungarian parliament had back in November 2003 unanimously passed a resolution declaring the 1932-1933 Holodomor an act of genocide against the Ukrainian people.

“It is much to be regretted that the Ukrainian parliament has still not done this.”, she commented.
