Updated information here: Russia resurrects Soviet ways in treatment of the Crimean Tatars

In the latest of a number of outrages by the regime in the Crimea under Russian occupation, the head of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar People, Refat Chubarov thas been prevented from returning to the Crimea following the meeting of the Mejlis in Henychesk, Kherson oblast.  The meeting had been held outside the Crimea for the first time since Ukrainian independence to a large extent because Mustafa Dzhemiliev, veteran Crimean Tatar leader and former head of the Mejlis was banned from entering his native Crimea by Russia and its puppet government in the Crimea back in April.

Radio Svoboda’s Crimean service reports that the self-proclaimed prosecutor of the Crimea, Natalya Poklonskaya read Chubarov a decision to ban him entry.

Chubarov, as usual, demanded that this be read to him, as is required even by the Constitution of the self-proclaimed regime, in Crimean Tatar. Poklonskaya refused.

There are understood to be a large number of buses and other police transport vehicles and very many OMON riot police and military.

Other members of the Mejlis were allowed through without trouble.

It was reported a little later that Chubarov has been banned entry, like Jemiliev, for 5 years.
