The authors sympathize with the Afghani people, who became hostages of terrorists and fanatics. They appeal Americans and the North Alliance to spare the peaceful population, observe human rights and use not only military, but political means to achieve their goals.

Wars and bursts of violence of the recent times all happen on the frontier of the Christian and Islamic worlds. The Moslem population is roughly divided into two groups: moderate (the author calls them nominal) and extreme. The members of the late population make a good generator of terrorists including kamikaze. No wonder: their life in this world is scanty and paradise expects them after death.

The term ‘terrorism’ meant different things in different times. Classical Russian terrorists exterminated individuals, condemned by their court to death. Modern terrorists kill a random sample of people to intimidate the mass. This makes difficult to give a juridical definition of terrorism. Different definitions are discussed.

The author criticizes quick and thoughtless retaliation of the USA and offers simple and efficient measures to stop using civil aviation planes as guided bombs.

The terrorist acts in the USA convinced everybody that the conflict between civilizations in our world does exist. Yet, dropping bombs and launching rockets will never replace the intelligible dialog between civilizations. As to the application of force, it can be of use only if most peaceful citizens of different cultures understand that the force is applied justly.
