Intrigue over ‘dismissal’ of Putin’s ideologue, Alexander Dugin
02.07.2014
So was the fascist Eurasian Union ideologue Alexander Dugin really removed from his (incredible) top post in Moscow State University? He claims this to be persecution for his active support for the Kremlin-backed militants in Donbas who "all patriots support"
The EU’s Opaque Dealings with Ukraine
01.07.2014
The decision to extend a ceasefire which one side was not respecting was doubtless taken under pressure from the EU, and not widely understood at home. Trust in the president, and in the EU, will be undermined if the latter fails to make good its threats of sanctions this time. The same applies if negotiation arrangements lack transparency
Victory and the Price Paid
27.06.2014
Relief at the signing finally of the Association Agreement is tinged with poignancy remembering those who paid with their lives for what, despite the lies from Sergei Glazyev and his Kremlin patrons, was indeed a ’revolution of dignity’
Whose anti-Semitic and Homophobic Choice?
27.06.2014
Viktor Medvedchuk is undoubtedly the Kremlin’s choice of ‘negotiator’, however why the leader of a party with apparent anti-Semitic leanings and a pronounced homophobic position should have German Chancellor Angela Merkel’s support is less clear.
Daughter of well-known pro-Ukrainian activist prevented from leaving Crimea
27.06.2014
The border guards claimed that she didn’t have the right to cross what they called the Russian border since her Ukrainian passport was not valid. They suggested that she ‘resolve the problem’ by getting a Russian passport.
Empty ‘positive signals’ used to justify another western cave-in over sanctions
26.06.2014
Russian President Vladimir Putin is adept at producing fine-sounding words each time sanctions appear to loom. The largely meaningless revoking of authorization to send troops into Ukraine has seemingly done the trick with the EU and USA yet again backing down
Tymchuk: Bombs to be expected anywhere in Ukraine
26.06.2014
Dmitry Tymchuk from the Centre for Military and Political Research believes that militants are likely to use bomb blasts like those seen early on Tuesday to divert attention from Donbas. where. despite official statements, they are ignoring the ceasefire
What should they talk about, Mr Putin?
23.06.2014
Vladimir Putin’s insistence on ‘negotiations’ with Kremlin-backed militants had appeared merely a ploy for stymying the peace process. Who there was to talk to seemed as unclear as what they had to say. This may have changed with the ‘negotiator’ proposed suggesting a Kremlin-dictated agenda
The Peace that chokes Russia
21.06.2014
Forget NATO confirmation that Russian troops are amassing on the border and mounting evidence of Russian fighters and equipment being brought into Ukraine. The news in Russia is that Ukrainian military have fired into Russian territory.
Exposed: Russian TV totally distorts Radio Svoboda video footage
21.06.2014
TV Rossiya 24 has used two of the video reports produced by Radio Svoboda correspondents from an area of military action, while grossly distorting its content
Criminal liability imposed for financing ‘separatism’
20.06.2014
A law passed on June 19 envisages up to 5 years for financing action in breach of the Constitution aiming at changing Ukraine’s borders and up to 7 years for funding attempts to violently seize power
Russia’s Nationalist Fringe Takes Center Stage In Eastern Ukraine
20.06.2014
On the marginals either from Russia or with pro-Russian, often far-right or even neo-Nazi leanings whom the Kremlin is helping in Donbas
Kremlin-backed militants force their way into local residents’ homes
18.06.2014
A report suggests that local residents are being forced to share their flats with fighters of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People’s Republic ‘army’. Such cases are reported in Slovyansk, Kramatorsk and several other cities under the control of the DPR.
Deep chill noted in relations between Ukraine and Russia
18.06.2014
In Russia the number of people kindly disposed to Ukraine almost halved between February and May, from 65% to 35%. In Ukraine the fall was from 78 % to 52%, with a reduction seen in all regions
"Forgive us, Ukraine"
18.06.2014
Despite the relentless propaganda and hate speech of most Russian media, by no means all Russians have been taken in. Russians have been laying flowers in sorrow and remembrance of the servicemen downed by Kremlin-backed terrorists on June 14, with signs asking forgiveness “for Putin” and “for our duped people”
EU’s Clear and Consistent Capitulation?
16.06.2014
The EU has invited Russia to join talks on the EU-Ukraine trade agreement, a radical shift from previous rejection of trilateral negotiations and frighteningly inadequate response to clear evidence that Russia is effectively waging war in Ukraine.
The Destabilizing effect of empty sanction threats
16.06.2014
The EU keeps warning that it will impose further sanctions “if” Russia continues ‘destabilizing’ the situation. It is frighteningly unclear what will finally generate a response, and not warnings of a potential response.
Russian tanks and Ukrainian orphans in Moscow’s unabated offensive
14.06.2014
A plane has brought 16 Ukrainian orphans home after they were taken by force across the border into Russia. Despite that abduction, Russian tanks and now the shooting down of a plane carrying 49 soldiers, the west is still ineffectually threatening yet again of ‘additional costs’ if Russia ‘fails to de-escalate’
Check your sources, Mr Lavrov
13.06.2014
Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov should really do a Google check before proposing urgent UN Security Resolutions on the situation in Ukraine. Five minutes on the Internet would clarify, for example, where the ’evidence’ he claims for Ukraine’s use of phosphorous bombs in fact dates back to Iraq in 2004
Freedom House: Russia’s ‘malign influence’ preceded invasion of Crimea
13.06.2014
The report – Nations in Transit 2014 – asserts that “Russia served as the model and inspiration for policies that have led to an uninterrupted retreat from free institutions throughout Eurasia and in 2013 brought a new and alarming level of repression”
